Notes

Sumerian loanword (Dumu-zi 'true son'), not an inherited Proto-Semitic root. Entered Semitic via Akkadian and spread as a month name (Tammuz/July) across Aramaic and Arabic. Ezek 8:14 is the only biblical attestation: women weeping for Tammuz at the Temple gate.
