Notes

LGz. 547 sets Arabic ṣadaf 'something that is high or lofty (such as a wall or a mountain), ravine' beside the Geez. Geez ṣadfa (yəṣdəf) 'fall off a cliff, plunge headlong, fall into an abyss', ʾaṣdafa 'hurl down, throw down a precipice', ṣədfat 'falling down (from a high place)'; Tigre ṣädfa, Tigrinya ṣädäfä, Amharic ṣäddäfä 'fall down' (LGz. 547). Arabic aṣ-ṣadafāni (Qurʾān 18:95) 'two mountains meeting together' (Lane 1666). Arabic ṣadafa 'turn away' (Lane 1665) and ṣadaf 'shell' (Lane 1666) are other words.
