Notes
Al-Jallad (2026, 147) compares Syriac ṣhy, ṣhyʾ (ṣhē, ṣahyā) 'thirst' (CAL, s.v. ṣhy n.) and Aramaic ṣhy 'to be thirsty' (CAL, s.v. ṣhy v.). HALOT 1018 sets Syriac ṣhā 'to be thirsty' beside Jewish Aramaic ṣḥy 'to be thirsty', ṣḥyʾ 'drought' and Hebrew ṣiḥeh 'parched', which have ḥ; Safaitic keeps h and ḥ apart and writes h.
