Notes

HALOT 260 calls Hebrew zbd 'to endow' an Aramaic loanword; zebed 'gift' is its noun. SD 170 prints ZBD II 'gift' as ?n.p.?. Not SA127 *zbd 'raid, maraud'. The verb is Arabic zabadahu 'he gave him a gift' (Lane 1209, tropical, from zabadahu 'he fed him with fresh butter') and Syriac zbad 'to endow, give a dowry' (Payne Smith 109); HALOT 260 sets Arabic zabada 'to bestow upon' beside JArm. and Syriac zbd.
