Commentary

PH Zb 4, a clay vessel from Phaistos: SI-MA · I-JA-TE, šima ʾiyyate ‘name of the island’. Heb. ʾî ‘coast, island’ (HALOT 38), pl. ʾiyyîm: the base ʾiyy- with the feminine -at-, and the genitive -i after the construct SI-MA written with an E-series sign. A-JE ʾaye (Thera) and I-JA ʾiya (Knossos) spell the same noun. One attestation. See SI-MA and I-JA.
