  1. THE Zb 7A-JE

Commentary

THE Zb 7, a clay vessel from Thera: the sole word on it, inscribed on an island, a label of origin or dedication. A dialect form of I-JA /ʾiya/ (Knossos) and I-JA-TE /ʾiyyate/ (Phaistos): A-JE at Thera against I-JA at East Cretan sites is regional vowel variation, as the libation formulae differ between Phaistos and East Crete. Ug. ỉht ‘islands, coastal region’ (DULAT 31). One attestation.
