Commentary

ZA 4a *28B-NU-MA-RE 13, ZA 5b *28B-NU-MA-RE 20, ZA 15a *28B-NU-MA-RE 6, each followed by SI-PI-KI ‘pourings’ on the Zakros wine tablets, among personal names: a personnel category, the stewards who administer the palace wine. A compound of yīnu ‘wine’, √y-y-n (Heb. yayin, HALOT 409; Ug. yn, DULAT 954), and mārē ‘lords, sons’, √m-r-y, cf. Aramaic mrʾ ‘lord, master’ (DNWSI 682); *28B writes ji, a proposed value, and WE reads the word as well, wēnu-mārē, wēnu < *wayn. Rival: a personal name, from its recurring slot beside SI-PI-KI (Negri, SMEA 43/1, 2001, 82). Three attestations. See VIN.
