Commentary

ZA Zb 34, a Zakros clay vessel: ]PU₂-RE-JẠ · KỌ-MỤ · RỤ-DI[ (GORILA IV 115); PU₂ is damaged at the fracture, the word whole. burē(t)yā ‘my Creatress’, addressed by the feminine imperative RU-DI: Heb. bārāʾ ‘to create’ (Gen 1:1), Arb. baraʾa ‘to create (God)’ (HALOT 153); PU₂ writes bu, as in DU-PU₂-RE dubur, the final ʾ unwritten, and -JA is the 1cs suffix -yā ‘my’. The feminine -t is unwritten before -yā, as in A-TA-NA-JE ‘my ʾAtanat’ beside A-TA-NA-TE; it is omissible in West Semitic names of the second millennium (Astour 1966, 315). PK Za 16 ]TO-SA · PỤ₂-RE-JẠ ]vest.[ (GORILA IV 42) is a second witness, the word whole, traces following after a damaged stretch. Rivals: PU₂-RE + -JA; √p-r-y ‘fruit’, *puriyya. See A-PA-RA-NE.
