Commentary
MA 1a and 1b, the faces of one bar from the Malia palace: I-DU-WI · *47 · QE-DE-MI-NU and A-MA · *47 · QE-DE-MI-NU (GORILA I 268–269). QE-DE-MI-NU writes Qēdmīnu, √q-d-m ‘front, east, early’ with the ē of Heb. qēdmâ ‘eastward’ and the Ishmaelite Qēdmāh (Gen 25:15; HALOT 1070), and -īnu, beside KA-DU-MA-NE Qadmān (HT 29) with -ān, the type of Amorite Qadmānum (see KA-DU-MA-NE). Astour sets Kadmos, Kadmōn and Kadmaiōn beside W-S qdm and the Ugaritic name Qdmn (Hellenosemitica 152); Heb. qadmōnî names the Kadmonites (Gen 15:19). Rival: a non-Semitic name, or a title after *47. One bar.
