Commentary

PK 1 .6 RA-NA-TU-SU 1, one word, written with its 1 and the next NI over an erasure, in a roster of names each counted 1 (GORILA I 281). rannat-u-šu: the verbal noun rannat- of √r-n-n ‘cry out’, nominative -u, and -šu ‘his’; the geminate is unwritten. Arabic rannah keeps the a of RA; Hebrew rinnāh takes the same suffixes (rinnātî ‘my cry’, Ps 17:1). Neo-Babylonian Bānītušu, ᵐDU₃-tu₂-šu₂ (GCCI 1, 63; YOS 17, 316), joins a -t- noun to -šu the same way. -šu keeps PS *-su ‘his’, which the change to *-hu reached in most but not all West Semitic languages (Huehnergard 2019, 51, 72–73 n. 5). Rivals: two names, RA-NA and TU-SU (TU-SU stands alone on .6–7); Egyptian rnn ‘jubeln’ (DULAT 731), which leaves -TU-SU unread. One witness. See A-RE-PI-RE-NA.
