Commentary

KH 86 ]RE-ZA CYP, before the aromatic cyperus, broken before, with no numeral of its own; HT 88 RE-ZA 6 before NI KI-KI-NA 7; HT 13 RE-ZA 5½, first entry of the VIN · TE list. ʾarz ‘cedar’, the aromatic wood, resin and oil, beside cyperus at Khania as cedar beside juniper in Hebrew (1 Kgs 5:22); RE writes the ra of *ʾaraz-, as Ugarit ar-zi-ma |ʔarzīma| < *|ʔarazīma| (GlOS 1, 43), ZA the z. Weak points: initial ʾa- unwritten; KH 20 ]DU-RE-ZA · CYP+E ½ fills the same slot before cyperus, so KH 86 ]RE-ZA can end DU-RE-ZA. Rival: Hieroglyphic Luwian aruza, a measure, attested later.
