DULAT 879 compares Hb. šwʕ and Akk. šuʔu/û = šarru. HALOT 1444 takes the JArm. word (Tg. Jb 34:19) as probably a Hebrew loan, ties šôaʿ to Ug. ṯʕ as the title of Kirta rather than ṯʕ ‘offering’, and lists Arab. wasiʿa (3584 *wšʕ) among the proposed etymologies. Not 3332 *yṯʿ ‘to help, save’, 615 *ŝVwVʕ- ‘call (for help)’ nor 2744 *ʾadōn- ‘lord’.
