Commentary
Context: Peak sanctuary; sole word inscription (LM IA)
The sole word of the Syme inscription (first edition, transcription only: Muhly & Olivier 2008, 212–13, HM 5585, found 1987). The libation is the grammatical subject: what goes out of the vessel glorifies the goddess—cf. Isa 60:13 לְפָאֵר מְקוֹם מִקְדָּשִׁי "to beautify the place of my sanctuary", and the hitpaʿel prayer register (Isa 60:21, 61:3; Ben Sira 50:20). √p-ʾ-r also gives pəʾēr "diadem" and tipʾart "splendor".
