Commentary

Heads a mixed commodity section: HT 44a I-QA-*118 · GRA, OLE+KI, OLE+U, OLE+RA, OLIV, NI, VIN, over an erasure, QA over an erased I (GORILA I 85). iqṭaʿ ‘divide!’, the imperative of √q-ṭ-ʿ ‘cut, divide’ (PS *qVṭVʿ-), with *118 = ṭa and the final ʿ unwritten: Arb. wa-qaṭṭaʿnāhum ‘and We divided them’ into twelve tribes (Q 7:160); JPA Pa. qaṭṭaʿ ‘divide (a Sidra)’ (Jastrow 1351). Hebrew, Ugaritic and Sabaic have q-ṣ-ʿ (HALOT 1124; DULAT 705); the ṭ follows Arabic and Aramaic. Rivals: ʾiqṭaʿ ‘I divide’, the 1 sg. prefix, since the prefixed i- of the imperative is Arabic only; a personal or institutional name. Weak point: *118 = ṭa is a proposed value. One attestation.
