Commentary
HT 119 KO-JA 10, after RI-MI-SI 13, in a personnel list (Scribe 9). Qōya, a hypocoristic on qōy-, quy- with -a, the Amorite -ya type, from qwy ‘wait for, hope’: Amorite Quwi-Haddu, imperative and divine name (Gelb 1980, no. 4146); Heb. qāwāh ‘wait for, hope’ (HALOT 1082), as qawwēh ʾel-YHWH ‘wait for YHWH’ (Ps 27:14); Akk. quʾʾû ‘to wait’ (CAD Q 328). Cuneiform has no o, so Gelb’s KU- spellings fit qō as well as qu; KO writes qō from *qaw- with aw > ō, or qu, as RO writes ru in SA-RO beside SA-RU šarru. Rival: ‘be strong’, Arab. qawiya (Lane 2997). Weak point: two signs, one witness. See JA-KU and JA-KU-TI.
