Commentary

PK 1 .7 MA-TI-ZA-I-TE 1, whole and undotted, in a roster of names each counted 1, in the closing MA- group with MA-TE-TI and MA-KA-I-TA (GORILA I 281). MA-TI matiʿ ‘protector’, the ʿ unwritten, spelt MA-TI- as in the Amorite names Matiʿ-ʾIl, Matiʿ-ʾAhli and Matiʿ-Tiwrum (Gelb 1980, nos. 4568, 4570, 4573); ZA-I-TE zayt ‘olive tree’, I the glide y, the noun that writes the OLIV logogram. Matiʿ with a noun, as Matiʿ-ʾAhli. Rival: Hurrian mat- (NPN 233–234: Matip-tešup, Mat-teja), which leaves ZA-I unread. Ugaritic tmtʕ stands under |m-t-ʕ| ‘to take away; to help, rescue’, with mātiʕ ‘helper, saviour’ in ma-ti-DINGIR (GlOS 2, 58). Weak point: no Matiʿ-zayt name is attested. One attestation. Cf. MA-KA-I-TA.
