Commentary
HT Zb 158b, a jar: the only word on side b (GORILA IV 65); side a reads [·]-TU-SE-SU-KI. Gentilic on SU-KI-RI-TA (PH Wa 32), the vowel of KI dead before RI; Linear B has the ethnic su-ki-ri-ta-jo (KN C 911). Davis (Aura Suppl. 13, 46) pairs the two forms as alternating endings. -I-JA is the Semitic nisba *-iy- (fem. *-iyya), the gentilic suffix of Ugaritic ugrty /ʾugaritiyyu/ ‘man of Ugarit’ (Fischer 2002, §116). Rival: Anatolian -iya-. -TE-I-JA has no other Linear A witness; SE-TO-I-JA (PR Za 1) shares -I-JA. One document.
