Commentary

KN Zf 31, a silver pin from a Mavro Spelio tomb, second row: A-DA-RA · TI-DI-TE-QA-TI · TA-SA-ZA, intact and undotted (GORILA IV 154–155). The pin speaks of itself. TI-DI tidī ‘fix it!’, 2fs imperative of √w-t-d ‘to fix a peg’, w dropped as in Arabic tid, tida (Lane 2916–17) and Heb. šēb from yāšab. TE-QA-TI teqaʿti ‘you (f.) have fastened’, -ti 2fs, of √t-q-ʿ, the verb of the pin driven into Samson’s braids (Judg 16:13–14; HALOT 1785); e by Akkadian-type coloring from ʿ. Heb. yātēd ‘peg’ pairs with tāqaʿ (Judg 4:21; Isa 22:23; HALOT 451). Rival: Tidiʿ-Teqaʿt ‘Teqaʿt knows’, a sentence name: tidiʿ 3fs of √y-d-ʿ, the Ebla name ti-da tidaʿ (Pagan 1998, row 4469), i by coloring as in tīde ‘you know’ (Huehnergard 1997, §26.1); Teqaʿt, tqʿt ‘she who applauds’ (DULAT 862), one of the Kotharat, songstresses akin to the Muses (KTU 1.24:40–50). ʿ unwritten in both readings. One attestation. See A-DA-RA, TA-TE-I-KE-ZA-RE and A-MI-DA-U.
