Commentary

A sign of two functions: the syllabogram ti (AB 04), and, standalone with quantities, the fig logogram, the abbreviation of TI-NI. Eleven standalone occurrences at six sites, most followed by numerals, with quantities from ¼ to 100. Pan-Semitic *tiʔin- ‘fig’, one of the seven species of Deut 8:8. Weak points: NI is the confirmed fig logogram, and TI never shares a tablet with it: TI stands alone at Malia, Palaikastro and Pyrgos, NI alone at Khania and Knossos; on HT 119, TI 7 stands among names inside a personnel total (KU-RO 160 with VIR 68). See TE-*301.
