Commentary

HT 117a and HT 28b, in the header both times, outside the count: on HT 117a (MA-KA-RI-TE KI-RO U-MI-NA-SI) the roster’s ten entries of 1 sum to KU-RO 10 without it, the responsible party, not a counted worker; on HT 28b it stands in the header pair with A-SI-JA-KA before the commodity block. Ummī-naśiʾ ‘My mother is chief’, a sentence name: ʾummī ‘my mother’, the geminate mm written with one sign, with naśiʾ ‘chief, exalted one’ (√n-ś-ʾ ‘lift’; see *301-SI). U- is radical: bare MI-NA-SI and DI-MI occur nowhere in the corpus, and the tablet’s other U- words are radical too, U-SU ʾUšu, mainland Tyre, and U-DI-MI ʾUdmī, the man of Udum, origin labels known from Amarna. Amorite women’s names carry the mother element (Ummum-ka-abī ‘the mother is like my father’). Rival: u-Minasī ‘and Minasī’, MI-NA-SI sign for sign the Neo-Assyrian Mi-na-si-i (Manasseh), √m-n-n with mnn > mnš, beside MI-NA-NE; it needs the conjunction, the dissimilation and an eight-century reach, and the Ugaritic mnn > mnš pair is in neither the Copenhagen Ugaritic Corpus nor DULAT, where the tribute word is mnḥ (KTU 3.8:21, 3.10:1; mnḥy ‘offering’, KTU 1.2 I 38).
