Commentary

HT 89, HT 94a, HT 100, HT 127b and KH 7a: VIR marks a human referent, and the counts make VIR+*313 a class of men: on HT 89 VIR+*313a 13 stands in the total 23+22+24+13+5, KU-RO 87, and on HT 100 VIR+*313a 16 is counted in KU-RO 97. Three palaeographic variants (a, b, c) stand in comparable lists. No phonetic complement fixes *313. Rival: *rāqiḥū ‘perfumers’, √r-q-ḥ: Ug. rqḥ ‘perfumer’ (DULAT 734), Akk. raqqu ‘oil presser, perfume maker’ (CAD R 173), Heb. rōqēaḥ ‘ointment-mixer’ (HALOT 1290), which rests on co-occurrence with aromatics. CYP and the other aromatics are not confined to these tablets, and on HT 89 CYP follows the personnel total, in a separate section.
