Commentary

Context: personnel register with no commodity logograms. Six entries of 1 unit follow the *21F-TU-NE and MA-KA-RI-TE rubrics. MA-KA-RI-TE is ‘merchants’, as on HT 117a (Ugaritic mkrm, DULAT 537); rival makritu ‘red’ (CAD M/1 138). PI-TA-KE-SI is bīt-kissi, a crown merchant (CAD K 593), rival Hurrian Pidi-kešḫi. Dikise is a possible Hurrian name; for the latter compare Laroche’s directly attested tagiše/tegiše ‘beautiful’ or ‘beauty’ and the Amarna personal name Tagi. One entry, A-RA-[?]-A-TU, is damaged.

Epigraphic note

GORILA I 137 normalizes .5 A-RA-[·]-A-TU 1̣: one sign-group with the third sign lost and no divider; its note offers A-RA-[·] 1̣ A-TU 1̣ as an alternative.
