Commentary

Ink-written clay cup (HM 2630), pair of KN Zc 7, from an upper MM III floor above the Basement of the Monolithic Pillars, Knossos, the crypt of a sanctuary (Evans, PoM I 587–588, 613–616). Three circular registers read as a spiral from the bottom. Register .1 QI-TI-RI heads the text, register .2 gives the incense as ground fine (A-DI DA-KI-TI, Hebrew qəṭōret … daqqâ, Lev 16:12) and the flask (PA-KU). NI-JA-NU is unread. Register .3, one group with a sign lost, is unread. Word division follows Evans (PoM I 615 n. 1), who reports dividing marks before A, DA and NI; GORILA IV 121 prints only the last. Younger reads A-DI-DA-KI-TI-PA-KU as a muddled A-DI-KI-TE.

Epigraphic note

Ink-written inscription inside a tall clay cup (HM 2630), pair of KN Zc 7, in three circular registers read as a spiral from the bottom. Word division: *34-TI-RI is its own register (GORILA IV 121), and Evans (PoM I 615 n. 1) reports dividing marks before signs 4, 6 and 11 (A, DA, NI); GORILA prints only the last. GORILA IV 121: line 2 · NI-JA-NU ·, NI dotted in the running transcription only; line 3 JU-KU-NA-PA-KU-NU-U-[·]-I-ZU, U dotted and one sign lost (SigLA and Younger agree).
