Commentary

The HT 117b roster, headed *21F-TU-NE, fixes the personal-name slot, KU-RE-JU 1 before DI-KI-SE 1; on HT 39 KU-RE-JU takes 8. With R/L neutralization and JU = lu, the spelling writes Kulelu. The strongest external formal parallel is the Middle Assyrian personal name Kulilu, written {m}ki-li-lu at Dunni-Aššur (Tell Sabi Abyad), T 98-038 obv. 4' (ORACC tcma/tsa1, P532066). The later personal name Kullulu is written {1}ku-lu-lu in SAA 6 22 rev. 9'. Amorite KU-LA-IL-E belongs to the same k-l-l family (Gelb 1980, no. 4114). Rival: kᵉlûlâ ‘betrothal, being a bride’ (Jer 2:2; HALOT 478), as the pair of *21F-TU-NE ‘bridegroom’ on HT 117b; the quantity 8 on HT 39 and DI-KI-SE, a name in the same layout, favour a name. Both readings take JU = lu.
