Commentary

HT 9a SA-RO · TE · VIN · PA-DE · 5¾, the first entry of the wine roster; HT 9b PẠ-DẸ 3, both signs dotted (GORILA I 18–19); HT 122a PA-DE 1. HT 122a recopies the HT 9 roster, so the three are one context. Ugaritic pdy (II) is a personal name, spelled syllabically pa-di/dì-ya, etym. unc. (DULAT 653); Padi is also the king of Ekron in Sennacherib’s annals (RINAP 3, Sennacherib 4). DE writes the final ī. Rival: pa-de, a divine recipient at Knossos (KN Fp 1, Fp 48; DMic II 65–66), which Landau compares with PA-DE (Landau, Namen 94, apud DMic II 66).
