Commentary
HT 98a: KA-RI-*310-I ¼, the last of the fractional issues, after RO-KE ½. Qarīnī ‘Companion’: *310 = in joins RI as it joins KI in KI-*310-RE kinnār, so KA-RI-IN-I writes qa-rīn-ī; Arabic qarana ‘be someone’s companion’, Sabaic qrn ‘guard’ (Biella 467), with the -ī of a personal name. Rival: Qarnī ‘horn’, as KA-RO-NA Qarna and Mari Qarni-Lim (ARM 26/1, 599). Rival: Akk. karānu ‘wine’ (CAD K 202). Weak point: *310 = in is a proposed value. One attestation.
