Commentary
HT 6a .4 O-RA₂-DI-NE 2, all four signs whole and undotted, in a list of NI after MA-*321 10 and before KA-PA-QE 5¾ (GORILA I 13). Two elements: O-RA₂ ʾŌl ‘the Foremost’ < *ʾawl ‘priority, supremacy’, O writing ʾō < *ʾaw as in O-SU-QA-RE ʾō Sukar and RA₂ its primary value la; DI-NE dīn ‘judgment’ (PS *dyn-). DULAT sets ảwl beside the name (‘Cf. ảwldn’, DULAT 128), and bʿldn shares its last element (DULAT 207): ʾŌl stands where ʾIl and Baʿl stand in ỉldn and bʿldn. Ebla glosses GABA.GÁL with a-wa-lum, ʔawal ‘priority, supremacy’, and Arabic has ʔawwal ‘first’ (GlOS 1, 53). Rivals: ỉldn ʾIl-dīn ‘El is judge’ (DULAT 52), O for ʾi; ảrdn, syll. a-ra-ad-ni (DULAT 96), RA₂ for ra. One witness.
