Commentary

HT 108 (Scribe HT 2, LM IB), a grain ration list headed by KI-RE-TA-NA ‘Cretan’: DI-NA-RO 2, DU-SU-NI 5, RA₂-TI 10. Dānīlu ‘El judges’, the Ugaritic hero-king Dāniʾēlu: √d-y-n with theophoric ʾēl contracted to -lo, RO writing lo. DI for the a of Dāniʾēlu writes the i of the root’s noun dīnu ‘judgment’ (CAD D 150). DI-NA-U Dīnāyu shares the base. HT 108 thus holds the roots of both Ugaritic epic heroes' names, Keret and Danel. One attestation.
