Commentary

Kubānu ‘devotee of Kubaba’, masculine of KU-PA₃-NA-TU Kubānatu, the counted personnel group of HT119 (di Mino, Ya Diktu). HT88 sets it beside KU-PA₃-PA₃ Kubaba. Amorite has the short base with this ending, Kubb-ān-um (Gelb, AS 21, no. 4148). Eight occurrences across seven inscriptions make name or title status probable. Rival: Gupana/Gupan, from Ugaritic syllabic {m}gu-pa-na (RS 11.839 r.8; ORACC P503288) and alphabetic gpn, with Linear B ku-pa-nu-we-to.
