Commentary

Kubānu ‘devotee of Kubaba’, masculine of KU-PA₃-NA-TU Kubānatu, the counted personnel group of HT 119 (di Mino, Ya Diktu). HT 88 sets it beside KU-PA₃-PA₃ Kubaba. Amorite has the short base with this ending, Kubb-ān-um (Gelb 1980, no. 4148), so the form need not write Kubaba’s second BA. A name or title, entered once on each of HT 1, HT 3, HT 49a, HT 88, HT 117a and PH(?) 31a and twice on HT 122a. Rival: Gupana/Gupan, the Ugaritic personal name gu-pa-na (RS 11.839) and the god gpn of gpn w ugr (KTU 1.3 III 36; DULAT 301), which Gordon compares with KU for g (Gordon 1966, §142), with Linear B ku-pa-nu-we-to. HT 101.4 KU-PA₃-[…] OLE+U 2 stands in an entry-heading position and restores as KU-PA₃-[NU]. See KU-PA₃-NA-TU.
