Commentary
HT 8a: JE-DI OLE+KI 10, heading the list; HT 36: JE-DI GRA+QE 44½; HT 122b: JE-DI · *346 · VIR+[?], heading a roster of men; HT 140: JE-DI · OLE+KI 1½ in mid-line, JE damaged, with room for a lost sign before it. A recipient on three tablets. yedī ‘the Idaean’, gentilic of Mount Ida. Rivals: yēdīʿ ‘he knows’ as a personal name, with ʿ unwritten (Hebrew Yĕdîʿăʾēl, 1 Chr 11:45; Amorite JADAʿ+JAT-UM, Gelb 1980, no. 3168); yehūdī ‘Judean’, which leaves the ū of -hū- unwritten (U writes /hu/ in U-NA, so the expected spelling is JE-U-DI) and needs Judah, first attested under Tiglath-pileser III (c. 734 BCE), some 700 years after LM IB. See I-DA and JA-DI.
